5 Easy and Simple Flight Tips for Newborns/babies

It can often be overwhelming at the thought of flying with a baby! You dread being the parent with a screaming baby and imagine everyone staring at you! But trust me, it is just the movies making something seem worse than it really is. I have flown on 19 flights with my daughter, the first one was when she was 12 weeks old. We have travelled to Europe and from Belfast to Leeds/London. Before than I have flown since I was 13 days old, I returned back from Montreal to London with my 2 year old brother and my mum. I can honestly say, I have never heard a baby cry for entire time!

  1. Take a sling! I travelled many of the flights on my own and used the sling. It helps when you have to take the pram down. If you are travelling alone, let the staff take the pram off you at the gate. A lot less stress than holding a baby and putting it in the cabin.

  2. You can take all the liquids you need for your baby, so do not worry! The liquids will help for take off and landing.

  3. Plan a flight around naps, there is nothing more stressful than worrying about nap times.

  4. For younger babies, they will love snuggling into you. Older babies may need more entertainment. The Sensory Submarine is a great place we go to for little new toys. https://www.thesensorysubmarine.com

  5. Take their sleeping bag, it is so helpful when they need to sleep and when it gets nippy of the plane. Also the smell gives them comfort.

Remember if they cry to just focus on them and their needs. An anxious parent may rub on to baby and they become anxious as well. Always easier said than done! Try breathing in for 3 and out for 5 and repeat. Be prepared to have walks down the aisle and older babies seem to love the try table and magazines.

You’ve got this!

Thanks,
